South Dakota Community Foundation Awards
Capacity Building Grants

October 2009 – The South Dakota Community Foundation is very excited to announce that fifty-six nonprofit organizations from across the state have been chosen to receive grants from the South Dakota Nonprofit Enhancement Project.  The grants awarded will be used for organizational capacity building needs, including but not limited to: developing a strategic plan, program evaluation, communications, board development, grant writing assistance, management transition, financial management review, and fund development.

The South Dakota Community Foundation received 192 applications requesting over $1.8 million in assistance.  A total of $350,000 was awarded in grants ranging in size from $2,000 to $12,500 and were part of a competitive application process.

The South Dakota Nonprofit Enhancement Program is a two year initiative launched by the South Dakota Community Foundation in 2009, assisted by a $2 million grant from the Bush Foundation of St. Paul, Minnesota.  Through this project, the South Dakota Community Foundation is providing training, education and resources to increase nonprofit capacity, improve nonprofit boards, increase nonprofit revenues and strengthen the nonprofit sector as a whole.  The South Dakota Community Foundation estimates more than 1,000 nonprofit executives, board members and staff will be reached through this initiative.
