Public Access AED Community Project

In 2023, the Spearfish Community Foundation launched a special project, in cooperation with the City of Spearfish and other local, community-minded organizations, to bring life-saving Automated External Defibrillator (AED) devices to the Spearfish community!

Spearfish Community Foundation has purchased five portable AED devices that are available for checkout (for registered special community events in Spearfish) at the Spearfish Recreation & Aquatics Center. AED smart cabinets and towers, complete with Stop the Bleed kits, will be installed throughout the city.

Grants

The Spearfish Community Foundation has distributed over $650,000 to nonprofit groups and organizations since 1997. As the Spearfish Community Foundation funds grow, so will the amount available each year for nonprofit projects and programs.

Spearfish Community Foundation launched the Impacting Tomorrow Together campaign in December 2021. Funds raised through Impacting Tomorrow Together will leverage collective resources to fund “charitable-purpose” projects/programs that make a large community impact and address community needs. Grants to 501(C)3 nonprofit and charitable organizations for these community betterment projects/programs will focus on, but not be limited to:

  • Health & Human Services
  • Senior Citizens
  • Recreation
  • Community Beautification
  • Arts & Culture
  • Public Safety

The City of Spearfish is also collaborating with the Spearfish Community Foundation to raise funds for the Impacting Tomorrow Together campaign. Starting January 2022, the City of Spearfish offers residents a unique opportunity to donate to the Spearfish Community Foundation through their monthly utility bill. Tax deductible monthly donations or a one-time gift will benefit local non-profit programs/projects that promote the social and economic well-being of the people living the Spearfish area. Residents may sign up for this convenient monthly or a one-time donation process through the city’s utility bill by completely the form on the City of Spearfish’s website www.cityofspearfish.com .

The State of South Dakota received a settlement from Phoenix-based Banner Health for its 2002 sale of seven hospitals and nursing homes. Banner Health made cash payment to the State that was imediately endowed at the South Dakota Community Foundation for health and elderly care in the communities in which Banner Health served. Each year, the Spearfish Community Foundation board of directors has the ability to recommend grants from this fund.
