$10,000 awarded to High Plains Heritage Society
November 21, 2024 // Grants, South Dakota Fund GrantsThe South Dakota Community Foundation (SDCF) recently awarded a $10,000 South Dakota Fund grant to High Plains Heritage Society. Funding will be used to assist in replacing lighting along the handicap accessible walkway and replacing the crumbling concrete steps.
“We are grateful to the SDCF for this generous grant which provides the opportunity to once again light up our handicap walkway, allowing a safer entrance for guests with limited abilities,” says Karla Scovell, High Plains Western Heritage Center Executive Director. “These enhancements greatly contribute to the safety and security of our guests at High Plains Western Heritage Center. Thank you!”
High Plains Heritage Western Center (Center) honors the pioneers, Plains Indians, and industries that developed throughout South Dakota, North Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, and Nebraska. The Center is also a venue for events, such as their annual Cowboy Supper Shows, High Plains live concerts, speakers series, and other events occurring during the May through October tourist season.
“By partnering with the High Plains Heritage Society to create a more accessible walkway the Center opens its doors to many more people to learn about our regions pioneering spirit and rich Native American culture,” says Ginger Niemann, SDCF Senior Program Officer.
SDCF is a public non-profit organization established in 1987. SDCF, with offices in Pierre, Rapid City, Sioux Falls and Aberdeen administers 1,200 funds benefiting hundreds of charitable organizations annually.
