South Dakota Community Foundation (SDCF) recently awarded a $15,000 Field of Dreams Fund, a Field of Interest Fund administered by SDCF, to the Oahe Hockey Association. Funding will aid in supporting upgrades keeping the facility serviceable and safe allowing it to be used as a spectator facility.

"Thanks to the Field of Dreams fund, our Capitalize on the Future campaign has raised nearly $1.1 million of our $5 million goal. We are thankful to have an organization, like the South Dakota Community Foundation, to support our area youth and provide a lasting impact on our communities," comments Nick Marso, OHA.

In 2016, the OHA made a strategic investment by purchasing a used private rink, known as the Ice Barn. This acquisition was aimed at providing additional ice availability to expand their program. However, at the time of purchase, the Ice Barn was primarily used as a practice arena due to its outdated condition. Recognizing the need for significant updates to keep the facility serviceable, the OHA sought ways to improve the rink.

The Field of Dreams Fund has been a crucial resource for the OHA in this endeavor. The dollars will be used to make the necessary updates to the Ice Barn, transforming it from a practice-only facility into a fully operational arena. This will enable the Ice Barn to host both practices and games, providing a safe and enjoyable environment for players and spectators alike.

"Through this grant and the dedication of the OHA, the Ice Barn will soon be a vibrant and essential part of the Pierre/Ft Pierre community, fostering the growth of youth hockey and offering a quality experience for all involved," states Ginger Niemann, SDCF Senior Program Officer.

SDCF is a public non-profit organization established in 1987. The Foundation distributed nearly $31 million in grants in 2023 which made a tremendous difference in communities statewide. This would not have been possible without the generosity of our donors.
