South Dakota Community Foundation (SDCF) recently awarded a $15,000 South Dakota Fund grant to Working Against Violence Inc (WAVI). Funding will support Project THRIVE, a comprehensive program dedicated to providing shelter, advocacy, and support services for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, stalking, and teen dating violence.

"We are incredibly grateful to the South Dakota Community Foundation for their generous grant of $15,000 in support of WAVI’s Project THRIVE,” said Amber Oldfield, WAVI’s Development Director. “This grant will be instrumental in sustaining our operations, enabling us to continue providing 24-hour safe shelter and comprehensive case management to survivors in need. With their partnership, we continue to empower individuals to rebuild their lives and find hope for a brighter, violence-free future. Together, we are making a lasting impact on our community."

Project THRIVE (Transformative Help, Resilience, and Inclusivity for Violence Elimination) reflects on WAVI’s commitment to fostering transformation, resilience, and inclusivity while working toward the elimination of violence in the Black Hills region. WAVI works with individuals and families to become self-sufficient by addressing immediate and longer-term needs through high-quality services THRIVE provides. These services include a 24-hour, secure emergency shelter, a 24-hour crisis line, comprehensive case management, emergency room response, legal and court advocacy, support groups, community education, and a referral network to other community services.

“WAVI has provided critical resources to survivors domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, stalking, and teen dating violence in the Black Hills region for over 40 years,” says Ginger Niemann, SDCF Senior Program Officer. “We are proud to partner with WAVI to support Project THRIVE.”
