South Dakota Community Foundation (SDCF) recently awarded a $17,500 South Dakota Fund grant to Sleep in Heavenly Peace Inc. Funding will assist in purchasing essential materials to build beds that will be delivered throughout the state to children in need.

“The South Dakota Community Foundation's generous funding will transform the lives of children in our local communities by providing them with the dignity, comfort, and restful sleep they deserve - lifting them from unsuitable sleeping conditions to safe, warm beds where they can dream, grow, and thrive,” said Jen Hamilton, Chapter Grants Manager, Sleep in Heavenly Peace.

Sleep in Heavenly Peace is a national nonprofit organization that began in 2012 with a simple message: No kid sleeps on the floor in our town. Chapters in South Dakota that will receive grant funds are Aberdeen, Brookings, Huron, Mitchell, Pierre, Rapid City, and Watertown. These Chapters will use grant funds to build beds that will be delivered to children providing them with a hope of better sleep, improved health, enhanced academic performance, and increased overall well-being.

“Together, we are investing in the well-being of children by providing a hope of better sleep in their own bed each night," says Ginger Niemann, SDCF Senior Program Officer. “We are proud to partner with Sleep in Heavenly Peace.”

SDCF is a public non-profit organization established in 1987. SDCF, with offices in Pierre, Rapid City, Sioux Falls and Aberdeen administers 1,300 funds benefiting hundreds of charitable organizations annually. The Foundation distributed nearly $40 million in grants in 2024 which made a tremendous difference in communities statewide. This would not have been possible without the generosity of our donors.
