$20,000 Awarded to the Castlewood Community Foundation

South Dakota Community Foundation (SDCF) recently awarded a $20,000 South Dakota Fund grant to Castlewood Community Foundation. Funding will assist with efforts to build a wellness center that will include a fitness area, a multi-purpose room, and a basic medical facility.
“The Castlewood Community Foundation extends our sincere appreciation to the South Dakota Community Foundation and SDCF Board of Directors for the $20,000 South Dakota Fund grant awarded to our Wellness Depot project,” said Lois Wiarda, Castlewood Community Foundation member. “This project is one of three amenities identified by area residents and businesses as a priority in improving the lifestyle for people in Castlewood and the surrounding area. Now nearing completion, the Wellness Depot project is a culmination of people working together. The South Dakota Fund grant has helped greatly in reaching our goal of offering a wellness facility for the physical, mental, and social wellbeing of residents in the Castlewood area. The Castlewood Community Foundation was formed in 2020, with a mission to inspire people and mobilize resources to strengthen their local community by connecting people who care with causes that matter, thus enriching the quality of life in the Castlewood area. Following the mission, Castlewood Community Foundation has been raising funds for a wellness center for the past three years, finally breaking ground in June 2024. The wellness center will serve the city of Castlewood and the surrounding area and provide physical, social, and medical services for all ages. Upon completion, the Castlewood Community Foundation and the city of Castlewood will work together to determine operating rules that will allow people in the area to use and enjoy the center. The wellness center will be maintained and staffed by the city.
