Mitchell Area Development Corporation Granted $100,000 from South Dakota Community Foundation

August 27, 2024 // Beyond Idea Grants, Grants

Mitchell Area Development Corporation (MADC) recently received $100,000 from South Dakota Community Foundation’s (SDCF) Beyond Idea Grant (BIG) program for the Mitchell Area Childcare Revitalization Program. Offered in partnership with the Bush Foundation, the BIG program supports community-based problem-solving efforts in South Dakota.

“These funds will significantly impact the Mitchell community by greatly improving our childcare options,” said Mike Lauritsen, CEO of MADC. “This grant will enable us to expand and enhance childcare facilities, providing safe and nurturing environments for our children while supporting working families. The improved childcare options will also contribute to the overall economic growth and development of our area, making Mitchell a more attractive place for families to live and work.”

Childcare is a great need across the state. MADC was awarded funding to test an idea to incentivize both the creation of daycare facilities and to help with the retention of qualified staff for daycare facilities in the Mitchell area. SDCF is proud to partner with MADC on this important project.

SDCF has awarded nearly $3.6 million dollars from the Beyond Idea Grant program in since 2022. Interested organizations can visit SDCommunityFoundation.org/BIG to review the grant guidelines and application instructions. SDCF will offer the BIG program again in 2025, with more details to be announced later this year. To qualify, a nonprofit must be IRS Publication 78 verified or have a fiscal sponsor.
