Read-Veflin American Legion Post 180 Scholarship Fund Established on Memorial Day
June 16, 2024 // ScholarshipsThe Read-Veflin American Legion Post 180 in New Effington recently established the Read-Veflin American Legion Post 180 Scholarship Fund with South Dakota Community Foundation. The scholarship will assist high school graduates from the New Effington and Roberts County area to pursue higher education in colleges and technical colleges.
“The scholarship stands as a legacy for not just the Post members here today who created it, but also to the many members and veterans from our area who served their country and their community over more than a century,” said Russell McKee, Post Commander. Fitting that sense of legacy, Commander McKee signed the scholarship agreement on Memorial Day 2024 in the Post’s headquarters when they gathered for their Memorial Day program. The first scholarships from the fund will be awarded in 2026.
