SDCF Hosts Miller Gathering to Foster Sustainable Community Savings

October 9, 2024 // Community Savings Account, Donors

A successful Community Savings Account (CSA) Gathering was hosted in Miller by South Dakota Community Foundation (SDCF) and Miller Area Foundation (MAF) on Wednesday, October 2nd.

“Hosting the regional CSA meeting was a wonderful opportunity for the Miller Area Foundation to showcase our successes, all made possible by the generosity of our donors,” said MAF Advisory Council Member, Tiffany Pape Hofer. “We were thrilled to highlight the impactful projects and initiatives that have flourished thanks to their support. Having the opportunity to collaborate with area foundations gave us the drive to continue making a difference.”

23 attended from eight CSAs across the central part of South Dakota. “A CSA is a fund held with SDCF to enhance quality of life in communities across South Dakota for years to come,” said Jamie Farmen, SDCF Community Development Coordinator. “We partner with 87 communities, each with a local advisory council. Funds raised locally are permanently endowed, providing steady growth, a stream of income for local nonprofits and protection for principal gifts.”

This event was one of four regional gatherings happening throughout the state this fall, aimed at strengthening collaboration among CSA leaders and providing resources for ongoing fundraising and granting efforts. Topics included how to share your impact and story, staying top of mind in your community and broadening donor base.

Partnering with SDCF allows communities to set up a driving force for making a difference. Starting a CSA creates a sustainable funding source for ongoing charitable needs in your community. CSAs provide grants to nonprofits for economic development, health, infrastructure, education, culture and human services.
