Accessibility for Everyone
The South Dakota Community Foundation (SDCF) presented a $20,000 South Dakota Fund grant to Youth & Family Services, Inc. (YFS). Funds provided partial support for the purchase and installation of an elevator in a new two-story classroom wing at their E Adams Street facility expansion project located in Rapid City.
“We are very thankful for the generous support and partnership with the South Dakota Community Foundation”, said Connie Olson, YFS Chief Development Officer. “Working together, we are able to meet the immediate and future needs of children and families in our community.”
Youth & Family Services, Inc. proudly serves and employs individuals with a variety of abilities. To ensure that everyone YFS serves and employs can safely and easily access the second story in the new addition, the organization included an elevator in the design plan. In addition to allowing safe passage between floors for persons of different ability levels, the elevator also allows for safer and easier transport of large items between floors.
“The South Dakota Community Foundation is proud to partner with Youth & Family Services, Inc. as they provide accessibility for both clients and staff”, said Ginger Niemann, SDCF Senior Program Officer. “Family programs are housed on the second floor and it is imperative that everyone can benefit from these services.”
In the past, the South Dakota Fund grants focused on culture, economic development, education, health and human services programs. Due to rapidly changing circumstances, grantmaking efforts have been reprioritized to focus on requests dealing with the Coronavirus, and its impact on nonprofit organizations and those that they serve.
