Check presentation for Assisting Children to Smile

The South Dakota Community Foundation (SDCF) presented a $6,000 South Dakota Fund grant to Assisting Children to Smile (ACTS). Funds will provide partial support for orthodontic care for eligible children in South Dakota. The ACTS program is an official program of the Grand Chapter of South Dakota Order of the Eastern Star that provides orthodontic care for eligible children in South Dakota. The program is a partnership between the Grand Chapter of South Dakota Order of the Eastern Star, the South Dakota Orthodontic Society and the South Dakota Sunshyne Smiles Dental Foundation.

“The funds from the South Dakota Community Foundation means that ACTS will be able to continue with our good works and help the youth of South Dakota receive the orthodontic care they need, said Wilbur Albrecht, Chairman, ACTS. “With continued support we will be able to grow and assist even more children to achieve a sense of self-worth and raise their self- esteem.”

Established in 2005, the Assisting Children to Smile Program is a statewide program that assists in the provision of orthodontic treatment for underprivileged children in South Dakota, who would not otherwise receive care.

“The South Dakota Community Foundation is proud to partner with Assisting Children to Smile as they make much needed dental work a possibility for deserving children”, said Ginger Niemann, SDCF Senior Program Officer. “A great smile goes a long way to improve everyone’s sense of self-worth.”

The South Dakota Fund is an unrestricted fund that makes grants in support of culture, economic development, education, health and human services. The SDCF awards grants throughout the year to nonprofits that meet vital and diverse needs across the state.
