The South Dakota Community Foundation (SDCF) presented a $10,000 South Dakota Fund grant to United Way of Vermillion. Funds will support the Community Connection Center and their licensed commercial community kitchen.

“This support from the South Dakota Community Foundation will allow us to address hunger and poverty in our community in new and innovative ways”, said Kelsey Collier-Wise, Executive Director, United Way of Vermillion. “The holistic approach provided by the Community Connection Center will transform lives in Vermillion and the South Dakota Community Foundation is making that possible.”

United Way of Vermillion provides resources and practical support for a growing number of agencies and the clients they serve. The Community Connection Center and its corresponding kitchen are due to be completed this year and will serve as a one-stop shop for multiple services including United Way of Vermillion, the Vermillion Food Pantry, the Weekend Backpack Program, The Welcome Table and the Salvation Army of Vermillion. They plan to pilot a “hub” concept where they would temporarily hold food for Feeding SD making it easier to distribute to local food pantries and programs.

“The South Dakota Community Foundation is proud to partner with United Way of Vermillion as they work to address hunger and poverty in their area”, said Ginger Niemann, SDCF Senior Program Officer. “By partnering with other service agencies, they are making services and resources easier to access for their clientele.”

The South Dakota Fund is an unrestricted fund that makes grants in support of culture, economic development, education, health and human services.
