Red Cross Check Presentation

The South Dakota Community Foundation (SDCF) presented a $15,000 South Dakota Fund grant to the American Red Cross. Funds will be used to provide partial support for their Home Fire Campaign and purchase of an Emergency Response Vehicle.

“We are incredibly grateful for the South Dakota Community Foundation’s investment in our organization, our mission and our community”, said Richard Smith, Executive Director, American Red Cross in Central and Western South Dakota. “This grant completes the funding needed to purchase a next-generation Emergency Response Vehicle in South Dakota. Additionally, this grant will help the Red Cross make sure residents are safe as possible and prepared in case of a home fire emergency.”

The American Red Cross launched the Home Fire Campaign in 2014. It includes response, recovery and preparedness activities. The Red Cross Emergency Response Vehicles (ERV’s) are the backbone of their disaster relief delivery system. They make it possible for the Red Cross to show up in areas where families and individuals need assistance.

“The South Dakota Community Foundation is proud to partner with the American Red Cross as they continue to provide much needed training and disaster relief to those experiencing critical needs”, said Ginger Niemann, SDCF Senior Program Officer. “People have come to rely on the American Red Cross showing up when disaster strikes.”

The South Dakota Fund is an unrestricted fund that makes grants in support of culture, economic development, education, health and human services. The SDCF awards grants throughout the year to nonprofits that meet vital and diverse needs across the state.
