Helping Communities Make Informed Decisions
The South Dakota Community Foundation (SDCF) presented a $10,000 Community Innovation Grant (CIG) to GROW South Dakota. Offered in partnership with the Bush Foundation, the Community Innovation Grant program supports efforts to find breakthrough solutions to community challenges across the state. The grant will help support the First Impression Tour 2020.
“GROW South Dakota is excited to receive the Community Innovation Grant award as it truly impacts our mission of strengthening communities”, said Lori Moen, Chief Operating Officer, GROW South Dakota. This experience will allow community development coordinators to collaborate between their communities in a noncompetitive nature. It provides an atmosphere of trust which generates candid discussions about daily successes and challenges. These shared conversations can then be brought back as possible solutions to strengthen their home communities.”
In a First Impression Tour, a GROW SD coach recruits and coordinates community development leaders from South Dakota towns to tour their respective communities and share reactions with their hosts. Tours are conducted in a round robin approach with all “Tourists” vising each other’s hometowns. Information gathered from the tours can be used to identify specific areas of need and generate an action plan to prioritize next steps.
“The South Dakota Community Foundation is pleased to partner with GROW South Dakota as they work to strengthen local communities”, said Ginger Niemann, SDCF Senior Program Officer. “Working together we can generate plans that will lead to better community solutions.”
A total of $400,000 will be available to nonprofits in 2020 through the Community Innovation Grant program. The first round for 2020 application submission is open now and will close February 7th.
