The South Dakota Community Foundation congratulates the Children’s Home Society on recently raising $80,000 for their organization from supporters over a two-year period. The organization was rewarded for their efforts with an additional $20,000 challenge grant from the South Dakota Community Foundation (SDCF). The combined funds resulted in the establishment of a $100,000 endowment fund at the SDCF for this nonprofit. Funds will be invested overtime and earnings will create a long-term revenue source to support the organization.

“The South Dakota Community Foundation is committed to strengthening nonprofits in our state through the power of endowment,” says Stephanie Judson, SDCF president. “The Nonprofit Savings Account (NSA) program allows the SDCF to bolster fundraising efforts that build endowment funds, which help nonprofits thrive today and long into the future. We congratulate all those involved in helping the Children’s Home Society successfully meet this challenge.”

About this Nonprofit

The Children’s Home Society (CHS) served as South Dakota’s primary orphanage and adoption agency for nearly 70 years. In the 1960’s, as foster care became the preferred method of care for abused or neglected children, CHS refocused its efforts and developed residential treatment and education programs to serve children with severe emotional and behavioral needs, most often due to histories of abuse.

“We are very grateful for the matching gift of $20,000”, said Rick Weber, Development Director, Children’s Home Foundation. “One of the most important strategies for a nonprofit organization is to work toward long-term financial sustainability. We’re fortunate to partner with the South Dakota Community Foundation toward that goal. The perpetual distributions from endowment funds held at the South Dakota Community Foundation will be part of keeping the Children’s Home Society mission going for generations to come – Empowering children, adults, families and communities to be resilient, safe, healthy and strong.”
