The South Dakota Community Foundation (SDCF) presented a $5,000 Community Innovation Grant to Tallgrass Recovery & Sober Living Homes. Funds will support development of a work plan to address recovery concerns and goals.
“The South Dakota Community Foundation grant will enable Tallgrass, our alumni and community stakeholders to create and nurture cultures of recovery in Eastern South Dakota”, said Jon Sommervold, Executive Director, Tallgrass Recovery & Sober Living Homes. “By funding our outreach and easing the stress upon our time, talent and treasure the SDCF is an essential partner in improving the quality of life for the recovery community and by extension the entire community. Thank you for partnering with Tallgrass Recovery. Your support is crucial.”
Tallgrass Recovery is working to solve the low recovery outcomes found in tribal and rural communities. The Sisseton-Wahpeton area in Northeast SD will be the focus of their efforts. They plan to engage the local recovery community in Sisseton, their partner agency Dakota Pride Treatment Center and the smaller communities surrounding the town of Sisseton. A series of meetings will be held with community stakeholders, alumni, staff at Dakota Pride and families of those in recovery. Additional information will be collected through surveys. All information gathered will be used for work plan development.
“The South Dakota Community Foundation is proud to partner with Tallgrass Recovery & Sober Living Homes as they develop a plan to improve successful recovery rates”, said Ginger Niemann, SDCF Senior Program Officer. “Addiction takes a terrible toll not only on the individual but their families and the community at large.”
