The South Dakota Community Foundation (SDCF) presented a $2,000 South Dakota Fund grant to the Brookings Public Library (BPL).  Funds will provide partial support for the purchase of two telescopes to be used for astronomy programs and to loan out to patrons.

“We are thrilled to be adding telescopes and astronomy programming for all ages to our offerings at the Brookings Public Library, and we are very thankful to the South Dakota Community Foundation for supporting this project!”, said Ashia Gustafson, Director of Library Services, BPL. “Through a partnership with Judy Vodruska from South Dakota State University, this project will allow us to further build our STEAM offering at BPL and provide our community access to the tools and ideas needed to build a base for STEAM learning and advanced education.”

This project will allow children and adults of all economic backgrounds to engage in STEAM learning by making the tools and knowledge accessible through the Brookings Public Library.

“The South Dakota Community Foundation is proud to partner with the Brookings Public Library as they provide access to necessary equipment for kids and families in Brookings County to further their STEAM education”, said Ginger Niemann, SDCF Senior Program Officer. “The skills learned will assure that participants develop the knowledge base necessary to succeed in today’s academic world.”

The South Dakota Fund is an unrestricted fund that makes grants in support of culture, economic development, education, health and human services.
