Check Presentation SD Guardianship

The South Dakota Community Foundation (SDCF) presented a $10,000 South Dakota Fund grant to the South Dakota Guardianship Program, Inc. Funds will be used to provide support for guardianship and conservatorship for citizens with disabilities including elderly persons.

“The South Dakota Guardianship Program is a private, non-profit corporation that provides guardian and conservator services to adults in South Dakota with disabilities who have no family members willing or able to care for them”, said Marilee Anton, Executive Director, South Dakota Guardianship Program, Inc. “The grant provided by the South Dakota Community Foundation will assure that our clients without funding will continue to receive guardianship and conservator services.”

The South Dakota Guardianship Program, Inc. was created in 1982 to provide guardianship and conservatorship for citizens with disabilities who do not have family members willing or able to legally assume responsibility. They are now expanding their role to include elderly persons. Due to our state’s aging population, this group is expected to increase rapidly. The program targets people in the most need of assistance.

“The South Dakota Community Foundation is proud to partner with the South Dakota Guardianship Program, Inc.  as they work to expand services for our state’s most needy”, said Ginger Niemann, SDCF Senior Program Officer. “We all need a helping hand at one time or another.”

The South Dakota Fund is an unrestricted fund that makes grants in support of culture, economic development, education, health and human services. The SDCF awards grants throughout the year to nonprofits that meet vital and diverse needs across the state.
