Sled Tow at Winter Park Days

The South Dakota Community Foundation (SDCF) presented a $10,000 Community Innovation Grant (CIG) to Wessington Springs Area Chamber & Development.  Offered in partnership with the Bush Foundation, the Community Innovation Grant program supports efforts to find breakthrough solutions to community challenges across the state. The grant will provide partial support for their Winter Park days.

“This grant gifts our community with the opportunity to address a need for wintertime physical activity for both the young and the young at heart”, said Gwyneth Fastnacht, Chair of Winter Park Activities. “It also provides an opportunity for our community to come together, recognizing our existing local assets and combining them into a community wide effort to ensure our Winter Park is around for generations to enjoy.”

Winter Park days were organized last winter by members of the Wessington Springs community to address the shortage of exercise opportunities for residents in Jerauld County. A plan is in place to make this activity permanently available to their community members.

“The South Dakota Community Foundation is pleased to partner with the Wessington Springs Area Chamber & Development as they address the challenge of keeping residents active year-round”, said Ginger Niemann, SDCF Senior Program Officer. “Physical activity is a necessary component of a healthy lifestyle.”

A total of $400,000 will be available to nonprofits in 2020 through the Community Innovation Grant program. The first round for 2020 application submission just closed with successful applicants being announced in April.  Visit our website at https://sdcommunityfoundation.org/for-nonprofits/community-innovation-grants/ to learn more about eligibility guidelines, deadlines and on-line application instructions.
