The South Dakota Community Foundation (SDCF) congratulates the Northeast South Dakota Area Health Education Center (NESD AHEC) on successfully securing a $15,000 South Dakota Fund grant award. The NESD AHEC strives to improve the health of rural South Dakota by supporting rural health providers, community health initiatives and helping to grow the pipeline of future health professionals, especially within Emergency Medical Services (EMS). Funds will be used to support the provision of interactive virtual training sessions for South Dakota EMS professionals focusing on clinical and operational best practices during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The funding we are receiving from the South Dakota Community Foundation is key to providing access for local emergency service responders and emergency medical technicians to high quality education via interactive online training,” said Sandra Durick, Executive Director, NESD AHEC. “This training will give emergency medical service providers the opportunity to provide high quality services in their communities.”

“We are proud to play a small part in bringing this project to fruition,” said Ginger Niemann, Senior Program Officer, SDCF. “Online classes allow for non-contact training with experts throughout the state for EMS professionals in both rural and frontier communities.”

In response to the pandemic, SDCF’s Board of Directors established the Coronavirus Response Fund to directly support the needs of communities and nonprofits affected by COVID-19. This fund addresses immediate needs including access to food, shortage of volunteers, healthcare sector support and human services sector support. Donations are being accepted.
